Eldery people

For two years I went two days a week to draw in a nursing home in Piera. He had paid a lot of attention to children and needed to capture their opposite pole, old age.

There were times when I was sad to see the wait-and-see attitude of many of them, but now that it’s been years, I remember pleasantly every moment of communication that took place between us.

Rita came to me directly to ask me to draw a picture for her, Lola crocheted and never looked up from her work, Alfredu had all his attention on the painting he was doing, Josep was in the chair all morning with a stubborn look, and it was not until a few months later that he let me observe him carefully to put it on paper. The cheerful Alfonsu, like a child, asked me for a coffee with milk candy when he saw me and he was excited to draw it three times!. Another one always appeared busy with his comings and goings (I tried to draw him quickly and quickly because I was interested) who almost didn’t notice my presence. And others were just there for three hours waiting to be called for lunch. I seem to have a clear memory of who was calm and at peace, who was angry and disillusioned, who kept Illusion for the little things and lived in the moment with a clear serenity, and I learned from all of them. I am immensely grateful to them for their patience. From here wherever they are, a hug for all!.

Paul Gauguin: “… knowing how to draw does not mean drawing well.”

Miquel Barceló: “In a portrait there is always the human condition. That’s why I paint people I know. In my portraits, there always end up being more of the model than I already know.”
